BBQ’s are happening everywhere. It’s been a great summer for BBQ, sometimes having to dodge the rain, and The Caribbean BBQ Association “CBBQA” has had a few new contests to get out and judge. Teams are getting more opportunity to compete and practice.

Within 30 day of the Cattlemen’s BBQ in July a couple of new contests sprang up in the greater San Juan metro area with some interesting and very good BBQ coming out of the competitors.

The first was in Dorado at the Urb. Sabanera August 6th followed by the 2nd Annual Colegio de Agronomos Sept. 3rd. in Hato Rey.

The BBQ in Dorado was purely a neighborhood throw down with 7 pretty darn good BBQ Teams stepping up to the grills to put out some good BBQ. No stranger to a BBQ Federico Maranges from Cattlemen’s rustled up a team and came in 1st in poultry.

It was great fun for the whole neighborhood, and families. They had some good bands playing and a speedy bar, always an essential at a good BBQ, and the area was real nice. Everything was under a huge covered double basketball size court with great playgrounds for the kids. Oh yea, plenty of good BBQ for everyone.

Colegio de Agronomos was a first year BBQ venture in 2010 with 4 teams participating. This 2nd Annual event they jumped up to 8 teams. This was a friendly contest among the local agriculturists of the Island with some really nice people that love to have a good time Q’ing.

Peter Vivoni and Cesar Reyes got the BBQ started and Peter’s wife Brenda also heads up team Agro Barbie’s. Agro Barbie’s returned this year to defend their record. These gals rock with their competitive nature and won’t be intimidated by the boys..

Fresh out of retirement some previous "Old Timers" former Grand Champions graced the scene with a new name and took a surprise win this year. Team Gasolina, Gregg Fyffe & Raymond Escadero, were backed by Pan American Grain and did a great job with their meats. Congratulations Team Gasolina.

We saw many friends there supporting the Colegio de Agronomos, like To Rico, Borges Meats, Café Mami and more. Hey if you got something good to eat this week thank a farmer!
