Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Barbecue Association, were represented at the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue competition in Lynchburg, TN by Greg Fyffe and his team Los Carbones de la Vida. Garry Howard from the Caribbean Barbecue Association accompanied the team this year. Jack Daniel's is the most prestigious barbecue competition in the country. Teams participate by invitation only. To be invited, US teams must win a state championship or other major contest with more than 50 teams. International teams that win their country's championship are also invited. This year there were 50 US and 15 international teams, the best of the best. Greg's team qualified by winning both the Puerto Rican Jack Daniel's competition in San Juan and the La Bodega de Mendez competition in Anasco. While they didn't bring home any trophies, the team had a great time in Tennessee.
